Monvert Nature Walk has a series of trails ranging over 73Ha and an excellent arboretum and fernery. The arboretum is dedicated to endemics and has many critically endangered species that you will see nowhere else. The trails start two kilometers further along on the same road as the visitor’s center, where you can get information and a map.
The trails – there are two official trails – are well marked and easy to follow. They take you through marshlands along walkways and on trails hacked through the secondary growth forest. They are not well shaded. The trailhead has a nice pavilion near a small lake that is great for reading or a picnic.
- Length: Parcours Bois D’ebene: .8 miles, Parcours Bois de Natte: 1.1mi
- Duration: .5 hour each.
- Lowest point: 2005ft
- Total elevation gain: Parcours Bois D’ebene: 134ft, Parcours Bois de Natte: 188ft
Continue past the visitor’s center along the road. You will continue until it ends. It will turn to gravel and rock as you go. To reach both trails continue from the parking lot, through the gate, and past the pavilions. You will reach a sign marked “Mirador.” This is the main trail that goes to an elevated platform that provides great vies of the area, but connects to Parcours Bois D’ebene and Parcours Bois de Natte. Both of these trails have large signs as you continue on. The trails diverge on opposite sides, but will cross one another near the Mirador. They have spraypainted markers along their routes.
